KANNUR: The statement of an auto driver turned crucial in nabbing Arjun Ayanki, a criminal case accused who had been on the run after threatening investigating officers. A police team arrested Arjun Ayanki from an apartment in Kannur at around 2:30 am Sunday early morning.

Arjun Ayanki reached Kannur to meet his friends, a lawyer couple seeking legal assistance. After reaching the city, he reached the lawyers’ residence in an auto. The auto driver, who grew suspicious, informed the Kannur police. The police then reached the location and after examining the CCTV footage and other evidence, surrounded Arjun.

A police team led by the DIG arrested Arjun from the lawyer’s residence. Only Arjun Ayanki was in the apartment at the time of the incident. He tried to flee seeing the police, but the officers chased and caught him.

He was arrested in the case registered by the Kannur police for challenging Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala. Although the police questioned Arjun Ayanki for nearly two hours, they have not yet obtained any clear information about his hideout.
