'Every decision you take should be for the nation's progress'; PM tells students

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged students to make every decision based on how it would benefit the country. He was speaking at the 57th convocation of IIT Delhi after inaugurating the ‘Param Pragnya’ supercomputer. The Prime Minister congratulated all the graduating students. He also said it would have been better if more of the medal winners were women. “Many students have received medals. But it would have been better if more of them were girls,” the Prime Minister said.

Opportunities in field of research

Modi said there are huge opportunities for graduates in the field of research. He said the Centre is implementing several initiatives to strengthen research and innovation in the country.

He highlighted the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme, the establishment of the National Research Foundation and funding of Rs 1 lakh crore for research.

One Nation One Subscription

Modi also spoke about the ‘One Nation One Subscription’ scheme. The initiative provides researchers across the country, especially those in smaller cities, access to leading global research journals without additional costs. The Prime Minister reminded the students that every generation has its own challenges and responsibilities. He said their work over the next 35 years would be important in taking India towards the goal of a developed India.

Every decision taken by students should be based on how it will benefit the country, he said. He also urged them to keep learning new things and updating their skills in line with the changing global technology landscape. Modi also asked the students to always remember the teachers, friends and institution that supported them.
