No fine via AI from today, no challans will be issued; MVD organizations to intensify protests

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The organizations have decided to intensify protests against the suspension of officials of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) in Pathanamthitta. The organizations of the MVD have decided to observe a state-wide protest today. The protest is being led by the MVD employee organizations KAMVIA and KMVDGOA.

As part of this, they informed that they will come to the office wearing black badges, will not collect tickets from today, and officials including AMVIs will not drive department vehicles. It has also been decided to hold a protest dharna in front of the Transport Commissionerate on August 22. The officials have decided to refrain from issuing challans from today.

The goal is zero challans statewide. There will be no fines AI cameras. It is the MVIs who will have to approve challans through AI cameras. The officials will abstain from this. The organizations have also informed that attendance will not be given through Face App.

The officials of the MVD, who fined a vehicle that had come for flood relief work, were suspended. Aranmula MLA Abin Varkey had complained to the transport minister against the fine. The action was taken following this. A fine of Rs 5200 was imposed for the fancy lights on the front of the jeep. The Youth Congress had paid this amount as per the MLA's instructions.
