Malayali arrested in Nedumbassery for trying to open flight’s emergency exit door

KOCHI: A Malayali has been arrested for trying to open the emergency exit door of a flight bound for Kochi from Malayasia’s Kuala Lumpur. The arrested is Jamsheer Athanikkal (36) of Palakkad. The Nedumbassery Police is questioning him.

The incident happened Wednesday night between 9.30 pm and 11.05 pm. Jamsheer was traveling in seat number 12A on flight OD 231. According to the FIR, he attempted to force open the emergency exit door and also smashed the emergency window panel.

Police said that he threatened the other passengers and cabin crew who tried to stop him. Later everyone together forcibly pulled him away. A video of the incident, recorded by another passenger, has also surfaced.

The flight landed in Kochi at 11.10 pm Wednesday night. The FIR was registered against Jamsheer based on the complaint of Bindu Mohan, security in charge of Batik Airlines. Reports said that he travelled alone. The police informed that all details including his background will be examined. The police are also investigating under what circumstances he tried to open the emergency exit door.
