New electricity connection charges revised; rates effective from October 12

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Revised charges for new electricity connections will come into effect from October 12, with the rates being fixed based on the connected load. The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued an order in this regard. Until now, the charges were determined based on the number of poles and other equipment required for providing the connection. The revised system changes this method of calculation.

The connection charge for domestic connections up to 2 kW has been standardised at Rs 2,000. For LT connections up to 30 kW, there will be no need to prepare a separate estimate for an additional transformer.

The revised rates will apply only to premises located within 200 metres of the existing 11-kV and LT distribution network, including 35 metres of service wire.

For premises located beyond 200 metres, the charges will continue to be calculated under the existing system. If providing a connection requires an increase in the capacity of an existing transformer or the installation of a new transformer, the responsibility will lie with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

Revised rates

• Domestic single-phase connection — up to 2 kW: Rs 2,000
• Non-domestic/commercial single-phase connection — up to 1 kW: Rs 2,500
• Non-domestic/commercial single-phase connection — above 1 kW and up to 2 kW: Rs 3,000
• All categories, single-phase — above 2 kW and up to 5 kW: Rs 5,000
• Three-phase connection — above 5 kW and up to 7 kW: Rs 8,000
• Three-phase connection — above 7 kW and up to 10 kW: Rs 10,000
• LT three-phase — above 10 kW and up to 30 kW: Rs 1,560 per kW
• LT three-phase — above 30 kW and up to 40 kW: Rs 2,890 per kW
• LT three-phase — above 40 kW and up to 50 kW: Rs 4,225 per kW
• LT three-phase — above 50 kW and up to 100 kW: Rs 5,670 per kW
