NEW DELHI: The Centre has said that E20 fuel, which contains 20% ethanol and 80% petrol, can be used safely. It rejected concerns that the fuel contains moisture and chloride.
The government said inspections were carried out across the fuel supply chain in the country following media reports about the issue. The quality of the fuel was found to be within the prescribed limits.
The Centre said there was no need to worry about fuel contamination. It also said quality checks are being carried out continuously across the supply chain. Immediate action will be taken if any deviation is found, it added. According to the Centre, only four isolated incidents related to the issue have been reported.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has alleged that E20 fuel is damaging cars and scooters. He made the allegation in a video shared on X. Rahul Gandhi said the Congress would take up the issue.
