CHERPULASSERY: A 14-year-old boy was slapped by his teacher for talking in the class. The teacher slapped the ninth-class boy of PTM High School in Thrikkadeeri. The incident happened Wednesday morning. The student suffered swelling on his face and severe pain after being slapped. He immediately informed his father over the phone, following which his parents reached the school and took him to the Cherpulassery Co-operative Hospital.

The student further said that the same teacher had assaulted him earlier also. He said that his parents had previously brought the matter to the attention of both the headmistress and the teacher. The student's father also claimed that when he reached the school after the incident, the teacher tried to attack him.

A complaint has been filed with the Cherpulassery Police and Childline. The police have confirmed that they have received the complaint and said further action can be taken only after a preliminary inquiry.
