THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A holiday was declared for educational institutions in various taluks in the state due to the ongoing heavy rains. The holidays have been given to various taluks in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts minding the rains gathering strength again. The holidays apply to everything from anganwadis to professional colleges.
The District Collector granted a holiday to all educational institutions operating relief camps in Kozhikode. Camps operating in schools in Wayanad district will have a holiday tomorrow.
Educational institutions in Kuttanad, Chengannur and Karthikappally taluks in Alappuzha have been granted a holiday tomorrow. The holiday will also apply to schools operating relief camps. The Collector has tasked the DDE to examine the situation in Mavelikkara, Cherthala and Ambalapuzha taluks and take a decision on granting holidays.
In Kottayam district, there is a holiday in Kottayam taluk and schools operating relief camps in other taluks. A holiday has also been given to Thiruvalla taluk in Pathanamthitta.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department warned of heavy rain in Kerala for the next three days. An orange alert has been issued for various districts till August 7.
