Body of woman who went missing in Nilambur flash floods found, toll rises to six

MALAPPURAM: The body of a woman who went missing after being swept away in the flash flood at Kottappuzha in T K Colony, Nilambur, has been found. The dead has been identified as Sajitha (27) of T K Colony. Her body was recovered around 12 noon today. With this, the death toll from the flash flood has risen to six.

The flash flood occurred around 5 pm last Sunday following heavy rain. Water suddenly gushed through the rocks with great force. Those who had gone to the river to bathe were swept away in the current. The bodies of Edarikode Mangadan Anas Yaseen (31), Tirur Padannaparamban Mohammed Kutty (65), Vandoor Chettiyar AML Kuruppath Rafeeq (39), Karuvarakundu Srambickal Raheem (45), and Vandoor Kuppanath Sajadh (23) had been recovered earlier.

Several were trapped in the river as the water level rose, but local residents arrived and rescued them. People were also stranded in several areas without being able to escape. Fire and Rescue Services personnel, police officers, and volunteers joined the rescue operations.
