Two die following sudden landslide in Vattavada; Orange alert in Kottayam, Idukki

VATTAVADA: Two died in sudden landslides that hit Kottakkamboor in Vattavada, Idukki, on Sunday. Balakrishnan, a native of Kottakkamboor, and his sister Chinnu died in the incident. Soil fell on the house, which was used by workers, amidst heavy rains in the region.

Following the landslide, the two were electrocuted after the soil distorted the power connection wires in the area. Balachandran's wife, Mariyamma, also sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the hospital. Residents, the Fire Force, and the police recovered the bodies. A rain warning had previously been issued for the area, and a 'Yellow Alert' was in effect.

Meanwhile, Kottayam and Idukki districts are witnessing heavy rainfall on Sunday. An orange alert has been issued in both districts.
