MALAPPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has submitted its report on the Kuttippuram bus accident to the Transport Commissioner. The report says the accident was caused by overspeeding. According to the report, there are two curves near the accident site. The bus was travelling at a very high speed and the driver lost control while taking the second curve. The speed limit at the curves is 50 kmph, but the bus was travelling at nearly twice the permitted speed. The report also states that the tyres lost grip on the road because of the excessive speed.
The accident involved the private bus 'Defender', which operates on the Thrissur-Kozhikode route. The bus overturned, leaving one person dead and 26 others injured, including the driver and the conductor. Several of the injured remain in critical condition. The victim was identified as Vaishnav (31), a native of Peruvayal in Kozhikode. The bus was completely damaged in the crash. Kuttippuram Police have registered a case against the bus driver.
